Considering the Role of Individuals in Creating Commitment, Continuity, and Dedication in the Science and Practice of Early Education and Development: A Memorial to Mary A. McEvoy (1953-2002)Center for Early Education and Development and Department of Educational Psychology University of Minnesota, smcconne{at}umn.edu Marv McEvoy was a leader in early education and development; she died unexpectedly on October 25, 2002. Like other leaders, Mary produced a lasting and substantial effect in early education and development through her own efforts and through the effect she had on others. This paper considers how leaders influence our field by creating commitment, continuity, and dedication to the science and practice of early education and development, and how these effects endure long after these individuals die.
